I prefer to have regular contact with parents to find out how things are going and provide feedback about progress and future planning. I will provide you with resources so that what is being worked on in counseling can extend into home and school.
I will plan and create therapeutic activities for our work, depending on needs. I may also seek information from school staff and/or share my ideas for how best to support your student (with your permission). Because I am a small independent practitioner, we can individualize care.
The frequency and duration of counseling depends on several factors. Many youth begin in weekly individual counseling and then join a group and/or move to biweekly sessions. As things improve, we move to monthly sessions or as needed. Some participate in group sessions only. Others start in group and then work individually for a few sessions. We can be flexible.
Children and families who have worked with me describe my style as respectful, caring, fun, and creative. I continuously pursue professional development and consultation to ensure I am informed about current research and practice. If I do not think I can help your child/family, I will tell you.
I have three children, two of whom are now adults. Growing up, I mostly lived in the Northeastern United States. I was raised with an appreciation for different cultures: my father was a Cuban immigrant and my mother is from New Jersey. Some of my favorite childhood memories occurred when I lived in Mexico City. I love the ocean and the mountains yet have come to know North Texas as home.
Text, email, or if you are a family in my practice: request a consultation in the portal. I use a practice management system called SimplePractice to manage forms, scheduling, and billing.
Lyn Neisius is an amazing counselor and a very patient listener. She has a calming and sweet spirit that the kids (& parents!) can feel. My son has been seeing Lyn for over a year now, and through her guidance, shared resources, and coping techniques, he is gaining confidence in himself and learning to lose his negative self talk. He is also learning how to become a better friend to his peers. Lyn is always coming up with new & creative ways to reach out and help. The parental feedback she provides is straightforward and honest and extremely helpful in recognizing how I can extend her therapies into his home life and beyond. We are very thankful that we found her practice and are excited about continuing therapy in her care.
(Lyn) You have been a great role model to me. You are warm, friendly, and have provided me with a lot of great advice. I am very happy and grateful to God for bringing someone like you into my life. This program has really helped (him) become social in addition to providing my family with many resources.
I am so happy to have gotten to do this internship with you. This was an experience I will never forget. This experience has shown me that I want to work with children. You are honestly a great person and you love to give to others.

Starting September, 2023, Graham will be providing supervised counseling sessions to clients at Yourchildscounselor. Lyn and Graham will work closely together for the benefit of these clients and the session fee will be reduced. This is an option and may not be appropriate for all youth.
It can be intimidating to seek professional help. You may feel that what you are doing to support your child or teen is not working. Please think of me as a partner.
Each person’s experience is linked to their developmental stage in life. Our work will be grounded by an understanding of human development. Most children and teens can benefit from counseling.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Positive Psychology, and Solution-Focused therapeutic approaches among others which are all evidence-based. I use the "Zones of Regulation" and "Social Thinking" (Michelle Garcia Winner) concepts and frameworks. Whether we are building new skills or processing feelings, I strive to make our work together engaging and fun.
Youth exist in numerous settings that impact their thoughts, feelings, actions, and experiences. These include: the family, school, digital media, extra-curricular, and cultural/religious involvements. Review of school, health, and evaluation records ensures we have the full picture of what is going on in your child/teen’s life. I also provide free 15 minute phone consultations to stay in touch throughout treatment.
