I continue to work in schools and therefore my practice is limited.
I will plan and create therapeutic activities for our work, depending on needs. I may also seek information from school staff and/or share my ideas for how best to support your student (with your permission). Some examples could include personalized tools to keep track of behaviors we are working on, motivational systems, organizational strategies, teaching coping skills using personalized themes that appeal to your child.
I will provide you with resources so that what is being worked on in counseling can extend into the home. I prefer to meet with parents approximately once per month to find out how things are going at home and provide feedback about progress and future planning. This can be done in person, virtually, or by phone and depending on your child/teen's individual needs may be less or more frequent.
Children and families who have worked with me describe my style as respectful, caring, fun, and creative.
I have three children, two of whom are now adults. Growing up, I mostly lived in the Northeastern United States. I was raised with an appreciation for different cultures: my father was a Cuban immigrant and my mother is from New Jersey. Some of my favorite childhood memories occurred when I lived in Mexico City. I love the ocean and the mountains yet have come to know North Texas as home.
I want you to feel comfortable with your child in my presence. Although I prefer to work in person, virtual appointments are available. We can wear masks or not and I have a "GermGuardian" air purifier in the office which features a HEPA filter and UVC light. If anyone is not feeling well, we can easily reschedule or shift to a telehealth meeting.
In order to schedule with me, please call or send an email so that we can connect by phone. Let me know good times for you to take a call. I offer 20 minute consultations by phone for free as a way for us to determine if I am a match for your needs. I use a practice management system called Simplepractice to manage forms, scheduling, and billing and if you choose to work with me, I will give you access to that system.
