Why don't you take insurance?

I prefer to devote my time to planning for work with clients.  I have elected not to accept insurance because the paperwork and accounting would detract from the quality of service I provide.

What can we expect from the planning you do in between sessions?

I will plan and create therapeutic activities for our work, depending on needs.  I may also seek information from school staff and/or share my ideas for how best to support your student (with your permission). Some examples could include personalized tools to keep track of behaviors we are working on, motivational systems, organizational strategies, teaching coping skills using personalized themes that appeal to your child.

How are parents/caregivers involved?

I will provide you with resources so that what is being worked on in counseling can extend into home and school.  I prefer to have regular contact with parents to find out how things are going and provide feedback about progress and future planning.

What are you like?

Children and families who have worked with me describe my style as respectful, caring, fun, and creative.  I continuously pursue professional development and consultation to ensure I am informed about current research and practice.

Tell me more about your background

I have three children, two of whom are now adults.  Growing up, I mostly lived in the Northeastern United States.  I was raised with an appreciation for different cultures: my father was a Cuban immigrant and my mother is from New Jersey.  Some of my favorite childhood memories occurred when I lived in Mexico City.   I love the ocean and the mountains yet have come to know North Texas as home.

Are you a Christian counselor?

This is a question I am asked sometimes and I am happy to speak more about it with you.  I do not practice counseling that refers to any religious tradition although I am a Christian and active with my church.

How do I schedule with you?

In order to schedule with me, get in touch by phone, text, or email.  Please include your phone # when you reach out to me.   I use a practice management system called Simplepractice to manage forms, scheduling, and billing.
