Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you work with?

I work primarily with children, teens, and young adults. Parent involvement varies depending on the client's age, needs, and circumstances.

What concerns do you commonly work with?

I work with anxiety, emotional regulation, social and developmental differences, ADHD and executive functioning challenges, and autism/neurodiversity. My background in counseling and school psychology helps me consider the bigger picture when concerns overlap.

What does counseling look like?

Counseling is active, individualized, and engaging. Sessions may include conversation, CBT strategies, games, activities, problem-solving, and emotional regulation skills. I incorporate a child's interests, along with structure and visual supports when helpful, to increase understanding, motivation, and engagement. With some neurodivergent clients, I also use an informal assessment process to better understand social awareness, conversation, self-awareness, and organizational skills and guide our work.

How are parents involved?

Children rarely make changes in isolation. Parent involvement may include check-ins, consultation, joint sessions, resources, or strategies for home. When helpful and with appropriate permission, I may also collaborate with school staff.

How often will we meet?

Many clients begin with weekly sessions and meet less frequently as progress is made. Frequency and length of treatment are individualized and reviewed along the way.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments. For families who live farther away, we may begin with in-person sessions to establish rapport and then transition to telehealth when appropriate.

Do you accept insurance?

My practice is private pay and does not participate with insurance plans. This allows greater flexibility in determining the focus, frequency, and length of counseling based on individual needs rather than insurance requirements. I can provide a superbill upon request for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Why might we talk about sleep or breathing?

Sleep and breathing can affect stress, attention, emotional regulation, and well-being. When relevant, I help families understand these connections and introduce practical strategies that support our counseling goals.

How do we get started?

A free 15-minute phone consultation is a good place to start. We can briefly discuss your concerns and determine whether my practice seems like a good fit.
